GC2 Thermal Modulation

Zoex Europe offers two thermal modulation systems both manufactured by Zoex Inc., for different applications:

ZX1 Liquid Nitrogen Cooled Loop Modulation System The ZX1 thermal modulation is a liquid nitrogen cooled loop system that provides the lowest practical temperature for thermal modulation, and modulates the widest range (C2 to C55) of organic compounds. Even methane has been modulated with liquid nitrogen cooled gas jets like those in the ZX1. The Zoex improved cryogenic heat exchange system minimizes liquid nitrogen (LN2) usage. Installation and use are extremely simple. The ZX1 system is time tested and robust - more robust than the quad jet. It is easy to install, often taking users less than 2 hours to install themselves. The ZX1 can also be easily detached,  a useful benefit that allows a GC to be used for other methods when there is no dedicated instrument available. The ZX1 offers the sharpest known modulation giving rise to the sharpest secondary peaks and therefore the highest possible peak capacity. Delivering a higher sensitivity than non-thermal modulators due to peak focussing. And unlike non-thermal modulators, the ZX1 can be used with MS detectors at normal flow rates.

 

  

ZX2 – Closed Cycle Refrigerated Loop Modulation GC x GC System The ZX2 closed cyclce refrigerated loop modualtion system eliminates the need for liquid nitrogen for thermal modulation. The ZX2 employs a closed cycle refrigerator/heat exchanger to produce -90° cold jet. The ZX2 modulates volatile and semi volatile compounds over the C7+ range. The ZX2 permits the setting of the secondary column temperature independently of main oven, and offers easy, drop-in column installation, using simple press-fit connections. The ZX2 is able to hold two secondary columns of up to 20m each. Capillary column dimensions of 0.32mm ID or less can be used throughout.  No liquid cryogen is needed for the cold jet. Therefore, it is easy to handle and manage without cryogenic liquids. The ZX2 is easy to install - most users can manage own installation within 2 hours. Further, the ZX2 can be uninstalled to allow the GC to be used for other methods. Therefore it is not necessary to have a dedicated GC. Two-stage thermal modulation is achieved by using a continuous cold jet flow and a regularly pulsed hot jet to deflect the cold jet and remobilize trapped effluent.
